Call for expression of interest to join the University of Minho’s LABBELS Associate Laboratory

The University of Minho is looking for candidates to recruit 5 PhD holders in Biotechnology to join the newly formed Associate Laboratory for Bio/Chemical/Micro-Nano/ElectroMechanical Technologies (LABBELS).

LABBELS will recruit talented PhD holders in Biotechnology to join 3 specific Offices:

  • The Fundraising Office.
  • The Science Dissemination and Communication Office.
  • The Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office.

All these positions will be permanent positions, pending a 6-month initial evaluation.

Next, the missions of the above Offices as well as the specific functions and roles of the job positions are described.

Fundraising Office

This office will make a step change in the capacity to diversify the Associate Laboratory’s funding sources specifically to access European Union and/or other international funding for R&D activities, in order to ensure the international prominence of science and technology activities.

The mission of this Office will be:

  • To assist project applications, by providing support for writing and proofreading texts in order to ensure full alignment with the objectives of the calls.
  • To participate in brokerage and networking events.
  • To perform technology surveillance.
  • To identify opportunities and match existing skills in order to search for partners, and offer the LABBELS expertise.

This office will aim to recruit one Chief Officer (PhD with at least 3 years of documented experience working in similar offices) and two PhD holders (with at least 2 years of experience in submitting research projects).

Science Dissemination and Communication Office

This office will support the dissemination of science to the general public.

The mission of this Office will be:

  • To participate in outreach events, fairs, and networks.
  • To construct and develop multimedia content for the dissemination of technical courses, workshops, seminars, and all interaction events with society.

This office will aim to recruit one PhD holder with at least 2 years of experience in similar functions.

Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office

This office will promote IP management and liaison to the industry, including support to partners’ search.

The mission of this Office is:

  • To assist in defining the IP Protection strategy at LABBELS.
  • To help in writing and reviewing patents or other IP protection models.
  • To do IP management.
  • To interact with TecMinho; GAPIs; INPI, EPO etc.
  • To search regulations applicable to different projects / products in particular if their transfer to the market is planned.
  • To look for potential partners interested in our IP.
  • To perform technological and market surveillance to identify opportunities.
  • To promote the creation, and support existing spin-offs.

This office will aim to recruit one PhD holder with at least 2 years of experience in similar functions.
