09 May 2024Arqus celebrates Europe Day by highlighting the significance of engaging in the forthcoming European elections, scheduled from 6th to 9th June 2024.
Every year, on 9th May, we celebrate Europe Day as a symbol of peace and unity in Europe. This date marks the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration made by the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman on 9th May 1950. In this declaration, Schuman outlined his vision for a new form of political cooperation in Europe that would make war between European nations unthinkable. Schuman’s proposal is considered the starting point for what we know today as the European Union.
This year, Europe Day falls right one more earlier than the end of the period to vote for the European elections (6th to 9th June 2024). During these elections, millions of Europeans will vote to decide which Members of the European Parliament will represent us in preparing new laws, and will influence the election of the European Commission.
To mark the occasion, the Alliance is joining the European Commission’s “Use your vote” campaign, starting today with a series of posts on all Arqus social media platforms with relevant information on the importance of voting. The campaign is also a call to exercise the right to vote and highlight the role of each of us in shaping the future of the European Union.
During the next four weeks, a post will be published weekly, providing key information on how European policies impact our daily lives and how voting can be used to help change the world we live in, tackle the global challenges that surround us, and ultimately, stand for democracy.
