High school students in Granada learn about the Arqus Alliance
|
11 Mar 2025The Arqus local team at the University of Granada visited high schools in Granada and nearby towns to present the mobility, training and language opportunities the Arqus Alliance offers.
Professor Blanca Delgado, a member of the Arqus Living Lab, gave talks in three high schools in villages of the province of Granada. More than 230 students attended the lectures on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February. Blanca Delgado is also Co-Principal Investigator of the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) project “Analysis and management of mobility in mountain national parks: Application of machine learning for sustainability against climate change”.
During the presentation, the students were introduced to the Arqus Alliance and the opportunities it offers, with particular emphasis on collaborative and joint programmes, their challenge-based learning structure, and mobility between the nine Arqus partner universities. The 2021 and 2022 Arqus Collaboratory Programmes (on climate change and diversity, respectively) were put as an example, while the 2025 Arqus Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Making the planet a healthier place” was presented.
The University of Granada also collaborates with one of these high schools, the IES Arjé in Chauchina, through the PIIISA initiative for research initiation in Andalusian high schools. In this particular case, secondary education students are introduced to research on sustainable tourism and technology applied to national parks. This research line is directly linked to that of the Arqus Living Lab on climate change and sustainable development.
A small group of upper-secondary education students from this high school, tutored by their teacher Ramón Pérez and researchers from the FEDER project “Analysis and management of mobility in mountain national parks” collaborate in the development of this initiative.
The outcome of this collaboration will be presented as part of the Arqus Blended Intensive Programme “Making the planet a healthier place”, which will be held from 5 to 9 May 2025 at the University of Granada. This BIP brings together the universities of Granada (coordinator), Minho, Vilnius and Wrocław.
BIPs are intensive courses combining short periods of face-to-face work with online learning and virtual collaboration between at least three Arqus Alliance partner universities.
