27 Nov 2025In October, the Resowi Centre at the University of Graz was filled with cheerful new mentees. This was no surprise, as the Mentoring Programme for Early-Stage Researchers (ESR) began a new round at the start of the academic year. Once again, numerous young researchers from all Arqus universities signed up for the programme’s third edition, which provides nine months of support from a mentor and training sessions.
The programme began in Graz with a series of workshops. The aim was to get to know each other as a group and to gather important initial information. ESR discussed future plans together and analysed possible career paths. The mentees also learned how to make the most of the programme.
The programme continues now
The young researchers will be provided with fresh knowledge again in November. This time as part of an online training session. Under the motto “Academic Careers – Success Factors Beyond Research Excellence”, Gerald Lind from the University of Graz will show the mentees why, in addition to excellent research, social dimensions and unwritten rules of everyday university life are also important for career advancement.
Training sessions like these will continue to accompany the young researchers until June. Experts from various Arqus universities will share their knowledge with the mentees. Topics will include international funding, digital presentations, and the use of AI in a research context.
