The EDLab pilot project presented the European Commission’s proposal for the European Degree in a meeting at the University of Cadiz (Spain) on 24 March.

The EDLab project “European policy experimentation in Higher Education: Piloting a Joint European Degree Label” was developed by the Arqus Alliance in collaboration with ENLIGHT, EUTOPIA and SEA-EU Alliances. It was one of the six policy experimentation projects funded by the European Commission to explore the viability of the implementation of the European Degree Label.

Marcela Iglesias, from SEA-EU Alliance and Vice-Rector at the University of Cadiz, opened the event, highlighting the achievements and commitments of the European University Alliances to implementing joint study programmes and developing excellent educational integration.

Dorothy Kelly, Arqus coordinator, provided a detailed overview of the development of the European Degree concept over the last few years. She explained how the European Commission has been promoting the creation of joint degrees and encouraging university alliances to adopt this educational modality that promotes greater mobility and collaboration between Higher Education institutions in Europe.

Laura Howard, who is in charge of EDLab at the University of Cadiz, participated as well, underlining the benefits of the European Degree, which would facilitate the cohesion between European educational systems, enhance the quality and comparability of degrees, and offer students a more versatile and internationally competitive education.

In this meeting, over 50 participants, experts and representatives from Arqus and SEA-EU Alliances discussed the growing interest in teaching internationalisation and the implementation the European Degree.
