Arqus Alliance organises a panel discussion on Open Science at this year JIFFI Conference for doctoral students

Next 24th and 25th November, the PhD students at the University of Granada (UGR) organise the virtual conference Researchers in Training – JIFFI Special Issue II edition. The acronym JIFFI in Spanish means interdisciplinarity, dissemination, connection and science.

The JIFFI Special Issue II is organised by PhD students from the University of Granada and for PhD students from all disciplines and universities. They are supported by the International Postgraduate School and the Council of Representatives of Doctoral Students of the UGR, and this year they have a very special collaborator, the Arqus Alliance.

This virtual forum is designed to answer the most relevant and frequently asked questions associated with the key moments of the doctoral process, such as: how to take care of my psychological health during the doctoral process, how new laws related to science affect my training and discipline, what to do when I finish my PhD, etc.

During 24th and 25th November, 4 roundtables will be held in online format:

• “Open Science, the science of the future?” (24th November, 15:45 – 18:00 CET).
• “Is there life beyond the thesis?” (24th November, 18:00 – 19:30 CET).
• “Care and the Doctoral Impostor Syndrome” (25th November 2021, 16:00 – 17:30 CET).
• “How the New Science Law Affects Us” (25th November 2021, 18:00 – 19:30 CET).

The first roundtable on 24th November 2021 (15:45 – 18:00 CET) devoted to “Open Science, the science of the future?” is organised in collaboration with Arqus Alliance and will be held in English. It will discuss what open science is, its fields of application and the implications for the different fields of knowledge, as well as the national and European policies that support it.

This panel discussion is organised as follows:

Presentations showing the applicability of Open Science:

• “Software licences, patent, source code”. Pablo García (Open Source Software Office, University of Granada).
• “Open Science in closer communities. Development of concrete projects in these fields”. Marie Herbet (Université Claude Bernard Lyon).
• “Citizen science, co-creation, innovation”. Esteban Romero Frias (Medialab, University of Granada).
• “National and European open science policies”. Pilar Rico (Open Access, Repository and Journals Unity, FECYT).

Open discussion about the following questions:

• What is the role of technology in citizenship research?
• What is the role of co-creation in research projects implemented with the public?
• What are the practical implications of open science for students?
• What is the contribution of open science in the construction and development of professional life?
• Under the open science paradigm, how is the metric system associated with the evaluation of achievements related to the research career configured or expected?
• How do libraries work with open science PhD students?
• How does open science impact the research design process? How is an investigation designed under the open science paradigm, is it different according to the field of knowledge?
• Are there currently programs or projects that are already operating under the parameters of open science?
