Silvia De Grandis, Senior Talent Acquisition Manager at Wooga, is our guest for the new session of the Arqus Alumni Talks, which will take place on 21 October at 15:00 CEST. Launched by the Arqus Linking Local Ecosystems team, this webinar is designed to help current students and graduates better prepare for the professional challenges that lie ahead.

In the fourth webinar of the series, titled “From Academia to Avatars: Navigating the leap from Humanities to the Gaming World”, Silvia will share her experiences and lessons learned from a journey that began with a degree in Modern Literature at the University of Padua, following her passion for reading and writing, and that led her to the corporate world where she is happily working at a top gaming company and speaking publicly on topics related to Human Resources, talent acquisition, and diversity and inclusion.

The session will take place online on 21 October 2024 at 15:00 CEST. Registration is required.

The speaker: Silvia De Grandis

I’m Silvia De Grandis, originally from Italy and now based in Berlin, where I work in Talent Acquisition for the gaming industry.

My journey began with a passion for reading and writing, which led me to become a finalist in the Campiello Giovani literary award in 2012.

This experience fueled my love for language, and I went on to study Modern Literature at the University of Padua. Later, motivated by the idea of a career in Academia, I moved to the Netherlands to pursue a Research Master’s Degree at the University of Amsterdam with a strong focus on Linguistics.

Moving abroad broadened my horizons and guided me in understanding Academia was not my path, but rather the corporate world.

I have been acquiring talent in the gaming industry since 2019. I hire for various teams building games, working across product development, marketing, and supporting teams.

I also lead internal training sessions and speak publicly on topics related to HR, talent acquisition, and diversity and inclusion, helping others understand the gaming industry’s intricate dynamics.

I currently work at Wooga, a 340-person mobile game developer focused on narrative games for a female audience.

As a Women in Games Ambassador, I’m committed to promoting Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, working toward better representation both in the content of games and in the teams behind them.

In my free time, I volunteer with children, whose energy brings balance to my life, and enjoy doing Improvisational theatre, which sharpens my public speaking and quick-thinking skills.
