Arqus Living Labs are an innovative umbrella concept promoting the setting up and development of communities and spaces for the generation of interdisciplinary, challenge-based approaches to major societal challenges.
In line with the objectives and recommendations of the latest EU Guidelines on Education for Environmental Sustainability and the Digital Education Action Plan, the Arqus Alliance aims to stimulate bottom-up responses to the need for strong education initiatives at all levels for the twin green and digital transition, for sound research and innovation proposals and, especially, to ensure that the synergies between education, research, innovation and dissemination are exploited to the full, by having them generated in a single open space.
The Climate Change & Sustainability Living Lab brings together committed academics, scientists and educators to share solutions and specific approaches. The versatility due to the diversity of disciplines represented in the team is a great strength and potential for a broader understanding of how our planet works.

This initiative is organised by the Universities of Granada, Minho, Padua, Vilnius and Wroclaw, and comprises a series of activities designed to explore the significance of Critical Raw Materials, understand the challenges they bring, and promote more responsible and efficient management of these essential resources.
Critical Raw Materials (CRM) have become a strategic cornerstone for industrial and technological development. Their availability shapes competitiveness, drives innovation, and underpins the transition toward more sustainable energy systems.
The CRM Days, to be held from 9 to 25 March, comprise a set of CRM‑related activities, including online talks in English open to participants from any country, as well as local events held in the languages of the organising universities. All activities are outreach‑oriented and aimed at non-specialised audiences of different ages.

One Health (in Action) is a Challenge-Based (CBL) & Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) designed for students across the Arqus Alliance who want to explore the interconnected health challenges affecting humans, animals, and the environment.
This innovative and interdisciplinar course enables students to develop practical skills and design evidence‑based solutions to real‑world One Health problems.
In the 2026 edition, the programme’s online phase will run throughout March–April 2026, during which participants take part in a series of interactive webinars introducing core One Health topics.
This is followed by the on-site week in Wrocław, Poland, from 4 to 8 May 2026, where students engage in hands-on laboratory, field and teamwork activities. Finally, the course concludes with an online student-led forum, in which teams present their challenge-based projects.
Through a unique blend of online learning, hands-on laboratory and field activities, and international teamwork, participants earn 6 ECTS credits and receive an official Arqus certificate of attendance.

Also, on 17 June 2025, the online scientific symposium titled “One Health and Pathogens, Parasites, and Vectors” explored the One Health approach in the context of climate change, with a special focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), vector-borne pathogens, parasites, and microbial biodiversity.
Arqus researchers, students and professionals were invited to attend this online symposium in June 2025 and workshop. It was designed to foster transdisciplinary collaboration and aimed to spark innovative research ideas and lay the foundation for joint grant proposals in this critical and evolving field.
