PhD Portal

“Mentoring is a mutually beneficial relationship between two or more people in which one of the people has more experience.” Karin Grasenick, 2021

Previous Arqus mentors have said that providing mentorship…

… was very rewarding because they got so see the development of their mentee without assuming all the duties of a supervisor

… made them aware of current struggles early-stage researchers face in an international context

… enabled them to give back or provide the support they wish they had as a young researcher

Previous Arqus mentees have said that participating in the programme…

… made them a lot more confident with regard to their academic work

… made them feel less doubtful about their academic future

… gave them the opportunity to collaborate internationally with experienced researchers

  • The programme Lasts from October to June.

  • Mentors are able to exchange in regular online Mentors’ Lounges.
  • You will be part of an exclusive group of selected Arqus mentees to spend part of your ESR journey together.

What the Arqus Mentoring programme is NOT:

  • A vehicle for scientific collaboration or finding a supervisor – If you wish to collaborate with other Arqus researchers and do not know how to reach out, you can contact phd-pursuit@arqus-alliance.eu for support.
  • A job provider – while mentors can offer advice on academic jobs, they are in no way required to materially assist with finding a position in academia for the mentee.
  • A self-help or therapy group – if you are struggling personally with academic work and life, you can take advantage of other offers at the university. See the Mental Health Support section
