Arqus has adopted a renewed Mission Statement together with a Joint Long-term Strategy that will guide the Alliance’s development over the next decade (2026–2035). This new strategic document, recently approved by the Arqus Rectors’ Council, establishes the shared vision, mission, values and key priorities of the Alliance, reinforcing its commitment to deeper cooperation and progressive integration among its member universities.

The renewed Mission Statement reflects the long-term vision, drawing on the Alliance’s accumulated experience across successive Erasmus+ work plans (2019–2025 and 2022–2031) and the Horizon 2020-funded SwafS project, Arqus R&I (2021-2023), as well as the lessons learned during a period marked by major global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

It also acknowledges the important contributions of the universities that have joined the Alliance since 2021, strengthening its strategic growth, complementarity and geographical balance.

The new Mission Statement reaffirms that Arqus is a long-term initiative that goes beyond individual funding programmes or project-based approaches. It provides a comprehensive and programmatic framework covering all dimensions of the Alliance’s activity – education, research, innovation, culture, societal engagement and global outreach – and ensures continuity and coherence over the next ten years.

In a context of rapidly evolving global challenges – including geopolitical instability, threats to democratic values, climate change, global health risks and the far-reaching impact of digital transformation – Arqus confirms its commitment to democratic principles and to the role of responsible knowledge and science as key drivers of human progress.

Universities, in all their missions, are seen as essential actors in addressing these challenges and in shaping a more innovative, inclusive and resilient Europe. By working together, the Alliance enhances its collective impact and capacity to contribute to solutions for the future of society.

We look forward to this new chapter we are embarking on at Arqus, where, thanks to this new long-term strategy, we will be able to consolidate our progress, address new goals and tackle the challenges facing our Alliance in the current context.
