Vilnius University invites Arqus PhD students to join their 3rd International Multidisciplinary Summer School for Doctoral Students on 16-20 June 2025.

“AI and Beyond: Thinking Machines, Thinking Humans”. This year’s central theme is the role of artificial intelligence in contemporary science. It will explore AI from a broad perspective, including viewpoints from the natural sciences, neuroscience, law, and ethics. This in-person event will also feature a cultural programme, including an excursion to historical sites in Lithuania.

Up to 15 places are reserved for PhD students from Arqus universities, don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Important: a €50 registration fee applies (to be paid after confirmation by the organisers; the amount can be covered from your PhD programme funding).

PhD students who attend all the summer school activities will be awarded 3 ECTS credits for transferable skills.

Some of the topics of the Doctoral Summer School will be:

  • Guidelines for ethical review
  • Academic ethics in citizen science
  • The monetary impact of research and publication ethics breaches: researcher-induced losses
  • Science and business collaboration
  • Using machine learning in natural language processing
  • recent advances in quantum machine learning
  • Speech signal processing: principles and recent advances
  • AI use cases in robotics
  • From neurons to neural networks: brain-computer interfaces
  • Should we surrender to artificial intelligence our natural ability to think? Some observations on the dangers of ai-engendered human idiocy
