Research

Research is one of the missions of our universities and one of the main pillars of the Alliance.

Research Support

One of the fundamental actors for the Alliance are PhD students and Early-Stage-Researchers.

We are currently working on the development of measures and activities to support early-stage researchers (ESRs, pre- and postdocs) in their pursuit of successful careers inside and outside academia. Arqus will provide ESRs at Arqus partner universities with high-quality opportunities to deepen and broaden the skills needed for succeeding in the academic system.

Subscribe to our monthly newsletter to keep yourself in the loop of the new opportunities coming up or visit this page regularly to find out more about events, activities and opportunities such as peer group training accompanied by an intense exchange on career and research strategies with senior researchers, or opportunities for visiting scholars (postdocs) and for talent attraction.

Arqus Talent Scholarship Fund

The Arqus Talent Scholarship is a Scholarship Scheme designed to attract and retain talent at the postgraduate level from around the world.

We are looking for talented graduates and students who want to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral Degree at one of the Arqus partner universities (Granada, Graz, Leipzig, Lyon 1, Maynooth, Minho, Padua, Vilnius and Wroclaw) including compulsory mobility at a second Arqus partner.

Arqus RI

The Arqus R&I project aims to enhance the research and innovation dimension of the Alliance’s activities and to address current global societal challenges through intensified joint research, characterised by the pursuit of excellence, openness, transparency and effective engagement with society.

Careers Outside Academia

Academia is not the only option after getting a PhD degree. There are a variety of career options available to PhD students who are interested in pursuing careers outside academia. Here are some examples:

Overall, the key to finding a career outside academia as a PhD student is to explore your interests, skills, and experiences and to be open to different career paths. Networking, gaining relevant skills and experience, and seeking out mentorship and career guidance can also be helpful in making the transition to a non-academic career.

Since university-trained researchers are increasingly sought after in the labour market outside academia, Arqus also puts an emphasis on offers regarding entrepreneurial skills, strategies for redesigning a research career for the non-university labour market, and networking with companies.

The Arqus Week for Careers Outside Academia

Arqus organises every year a Week for Careers Outside Academia, to stimulate entrepreneurship and creativity amongst the university community and across different areas of activities, through mutual learning, by engaging regional resources and building on the complementary strengths of all its members.

These are our past Weeks for Careers Outside Academia:
