Green Mobility Days at the University of Granada
|
23 Apr 2025For the second edition of the Green Mobility Days, the University of Granada is organising a round table, a waste collection and kayak activity and a month-long bike challenge, merging sustainable development, green mobility and well-being.
The Arqus Green Mobility Days initiative aims to foster and look for new ways to implement green mobility. Arqus universities carry out activities at local level to raise awareness within their academic communities regarding sustainable ways of managing international mobility, whether it comes to choosing a greener means of transport when travelling abroad or reducing the impact of daily habits while living in the hosting cities.
This year, the University of Granada is hosting a round table to address the sustainable infrastructure model in cities on 23 April at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Granada. In this session, specialists in architecture, urban planning and ecology will reflect on the renaturalisation of the urban environment from different perspectives. To this end, the conference presentations will focus on Spanish practical cases such as those of the city of Málaga and the Mar Menor lagoon, in Murcia, as well as other European experiences in the regeneration of public spaces. Lecturers Francisco Javier Abarca Álvarez and Fernando Osuna Pérez will coordinate and moderate the event.
On Saturday, 26 May, the University of Granada invites students and staff to participate in an outdoor activity in the surroundings of the Cubillas Reservoir, near the city of Granada. The day will include a waste collection activity, as well as a recreational activity with kayaks, thanks to the collaboration of the Sports Centre (CAD) of the Vice-Rectorate for Student Services and Campus Life of the University of Granada. If you are in Granada, register here.
To further promote the Arqus Green Mobility Days, the University of Granada is participating in the 2025 edition of the 30 Days by Bike Challenge, a citizen initiative promoting more sustainable, healthy and accessible means of transport. The entire University community is encouraged to participate in the Bike Challenge by cycling every day in April (Earth Month), share their experiences on social media and log their journeys through the Ciclogreen app, which measures distance and CO₂ emissions savings. The three participants who cycle the most kilometres will receive a prize of Arqus Alliance promotional materials in recognition of their commitment to sustainable mobility.
The Arqus Alliance also encourages students, academic and administrative staff of its partner universities to apply to the Arqus Green Mobility Days Award with their sustainability projects and good practices. The deadline for applications is 31 May 2025. More information here.
