On 8 and 9 December 2025, Sorbonne Nouvelle University hosted the annual in-person meeting of the Working Group of European Universities in France (GT-UEFR), bringing together the administrative staff responsible for steering European university alliances in French higher education institutions.

These two days, designed as a space for coordination, sharing experiences and consolidating a common vision, brought together nearly sixty representatives from alliances, as well as from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Space, the Erasmus+ France Agency, and Campus France. Arqus and the University of Claude Bernard Lyon 1, which are particularly active in the network, were, of course, in attendance.

The rich exchanges confirmed both the dynamism of this professional network and the transformative impact of the European Universities Initiative on higher education and research in France and Europe.

Numerous major strategic issues related to the deployment of these new objects were discussed, including educational issues (mobility, microcredentials, joint degrees), organisational issues (human resources, recognition and promotion), and governance issues (legal entity, sustainability).

Confirming France’s role in the implementation of this new cooperation framework, 73 French institutions are currently participating in the activities of 54 alliances.
