The seminar, titled “Unlocking Global Responsibility: Revolutionizing Higher Education through Challenge-Based Learning in the Planetary Crisis”, will be led by Jakob Grandin, one of the designers of CBL experiences during the first stage of the Arqus Alliance (2019-2022).
The event will also be broadcast live on the Docência mais YouTube channel.
The seminar is aimed at professors and researchers teaching in higher education across all scientific fields and anyone interested in Challenge-Based Learning methodologies.
Challenge-Based Learning is an engaging approach that inspires both educators and students while equipping them to tackle the ever-evolving challenges of contemporary society. It encourages the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, preparing students for future challenges.
CBL has been the learning approach adopted during the Winter Schools of the Arqus Collaboratory Programmes of 2021, “Rethinking Climate Risks”, and 2022, “Diversity, Interdisciplinarity and Societal Challenges”. Through these Schools, students were equipped with interdisciplinary research ideas, skills and resources to develop group research projects in different areas and Arqus cities. The Arqus Alliance has also offered a Massive Open Online Course on Challenge-Based Learning (CBL-MOOC) in Higher Education and has produced a research article about the reception of this methodology by the students, taking as the main context the challenges that the pandemic for the COVID-19 posed to international mobility.
