The University of Minho welcomes its new Rector, Pedro Arezes

10 Dec 2025On 3 December, the University of Minho officially inaugurated its 10th Rectorate, marking a new chapter in the institution’s history. Pedro Arezes, professor at the School of Engineering and originally from Barcelos, in northern Portugal, succeeds former rector Rui Veira de Castro in leading the academic community.
Arezes will be supported by Vice-Rectors António Salgado, Cristina Dias, João Cardoso Rosas and Nuno Castro, as well as Pro-Rectors Raul Fangueiro, Lígia Rodrigues, Sandra Dias Fernandes, Tiago Miranda and Carlos Videira.
The ceremony was attended by professors Rafael Pérez Gómez and María Dolores Martínez Aires, from the University of Granada, who joined the event as guests of the new rector.
The University of Minho, which has been part of Arqus since 2022, located across the vibrant northern Portuguese cities of Braga and Guimarães, is a young and dynamic institution known for its comprehensive offer across diverse scientific fields, providing an excellent environment for both academic and personal development.
