06 May 2025Vilnius University and Arqus Plurilingual Hub invite teachers to the seminar “Engaging in reflective practice as a language educator”, which will take place on 12 May both in person and online.
Engaging in reflective practice offers numerous benefits for language teachers, ranging from enhanced self-awareness and improved teaching strategies to better student outcomes and teacher well-being. In this seminar, participants will analyse their own teaching practice using Farrell’s (2014, 2025) framework for teacher reflection in second language education. We will cover five levels of reflective practice: philosophy, principles, theory-of-practice, practice and beyond practice. Practical techniques for engaging with each level will be provided, linking theory and teaching practice. The participants will begin to formulate their own teaching philosophy.
The seminar will also highlight the importance of collaborative reflection as an important factor in the sustainability of the language teaching profession. This talk is suitable for teachers at all levels of development, from novice to experts, as well as educational managers and teacher educators.
The session will be hybrid so teachers from all Arqus universities, as well as external participants, can participate.
Date and time: 12 May 2025, 14:00 (CEST).
Please note the time difference if you are attending in person in Lithuania.
Registration is required. The link for the online seminar will be sent 2 days before the talk.
