Open Publication mainly refers to the term Open Access and encompasses the free and immediate availability of digital publications and other research output. Open Access content is open to all people and reusable without any fees, technical or legal barriers. Authors should have the possibility to control their published content. Making all research outputs freely accessible can have a greater impact, increase efficiency in the innovative use of knowledge, finding solutions, making decisions and help to ensure that knowledge can be utilised more quickly and in any research or societal context. There are three different ways to publish in Open Access: Green (secondary publication of research outputs published by a publishing house with fees for authors), Gold (first publication of research output in an Open Access journal, as a monograph or in a conference proceeding) and Diamond Open Access (publication of research output without any fees for readers and authors).
