As part of the Arqus European University Alliance, the initiative on the Nagoya Protocol and Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) promotes awareness, capacity-building and practical exchange on the fair and equitable use of genetic resources within international and national biodiversity frameworks. The Nagoya Protocol, under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), ensures that the benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources are shared fairly between providers and users.
The central event was the international webinar The Nagoya Protocol and Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS), held on 11 November 2024. Co-organised by the University of Graz, the Knowledge Transfer Centre (WTZ) Austria, the Arqus Alliance and the German Nagoya Protocol Hub, the event attracted over 85 participants from across Europe.
In addition, the Nagoya Group convenes on several occasions to discuss and exchange views on the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol and recent developments in the field.
