Language centre directors from eight Arqus Universities and one associate partner met in Granada from 25 to 27 June to focus on the topics of culture and management during their network meeting titled “Bridging cultures and leading change in university language centres: Intercultural and language workshop series for the plurilingualism module”.

The group kicked off their meeting with a welcome session and night tour of the Alhambra, Granada’s world-renowned historic palace and fortress. The next day began with an input session on promoting and developing intercultural awareness for university staff and students, which was led by Ma José Pérez, and the afternoon included collaborative work on the same topic. Many of the concepts discussed—such as the three levels of culture and low-context and high-context cultures—will be included in future Arqus Plurilingual Hub workshops.

Andrés Navarro led the input session on the second day. This session focused on business models for language centre management. He led the group through strategies for creating added value and developing a vision that can be used to grow and develop the language centres and departments at the Arqus Universities.

This was the seventh meeting of the Arqus Language Centre Directors and the group plans to meet again next year.
