13 Jun 2025In May 2025, students from the University of Wrocław carried out field research as part of the project “Proximity matters: transdisciplinary joint teaching activities to foster collaborative networks between local food producers and tourism/leisure entrepreneurs, under sustainable development and climate change prismas”.
This project is financed by the Arqus Innovation Fund and it is being implemented in five Arqus universities: Granada, Graz, Minho, Padua and Wrocław.
The initiative “Proximity matters” focuses on the readiness and adaptability of food-producing entities in the face of climate change. The aim of the project is to analyse and enhance efforts to strengthen connections and economic proximity between local food producers and businesses operating in the tourism sector. Such cooperation is expected to reduce carbon footprints, foster the development of social capital, and shorten supply chains.
During their visit to the Land of Extinct Volcanoes Geopark, students from the Institute of Geography and Regional Development at the University of Wrocław conducted a series of interviews with local food producers and their clients. They visited the Agrotourism and Restaurant Młyn Wielisław, the Villa Greta, the Inn Gościniec Pod Gruszą (including microbrewery and oil press), and the Pasieka na Malinowym Wzgórzu apiary.
The University of Wrocław students also had the opportunity to learn about the specifics of the study area, as well as the history and objectives of the Geopark. The students were accompanied in the field by professors Sylwia Dołzbłasz and Krzysztof Janc.
