The Rectors or their representatives of all Arqus universities met yesterday at Leipzig University for the 15th Arqus Rectors’ Council meeting. The meeting was framed within the programme of events and activities scheduled for the 2025 Arqus Annual Conference.

The Arqus highest representatives shared updates of both internal and external issues of importance to the Alliance, with particular reference to the European policy level. The Rectors’ Council discussed internally the mid-term review process of Arqus II, proposals to strengthen further Arqus cooperative activities, and the Arqus Inclusion and Diversity Action Plan.

Hedwig Unger, a specialist researcher at the Centre for Austrian and European Higher Education Law and Governance, University of Graz, was invited to present initial findings on the different options to create a legal entity, on behalf of the Task Force appointed by rectors for this purpose.

The second half of the meeting counted with the participation and expertise of representatives from Arqus associate partner universities: Serhiy Kvit, Rector of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and Claire O’Malley, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global) of Durham University, as well as members of the International Advisory Board (IAB)

The Arqus Rectors’ Council is formed by the Rector or President of each partner university. It is the body responsible for setting general policy, medium and long-term strategies and key objectives for the Alliance, and as such is key to ensuring full institutional commitment to Alliance policies and activities. Rectors’ Council meetings are essential to discuss and decide on central issues for the future of the Arqus Alliance.
