Students and staff from the Arqus universities can now register for the 7th edition of the Arqus Café, which will run from 18th September to 1st December 2023. We are also looking for volunteers who would like to lead a language café in their first or native language.

The Arqus Café is an online space where members of the Arqus universities can meet in small groups to practice and improve their language skills in a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a great opportunity for students and staff to expand their language and cultural knowledge informally together with other learners. All levels are welcome, but it works best when participants have a minimum of an A2/B1 level. Please note that the cafés are not language courses.

The 1-hour online cafés take place once a week via ZOOM. The tutors guiding the Arqus Café sessions are native-level speakers who have received training in leading language cafés. The Arqus Café offers sessions in Arabic, German, English, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and other languages.

Registration opens today and the cafés will start on 18th September. You can still sign up after the session starts, but you will be more likely to get a place if you sign up in advance.

And if you want to participate as a tutor in any language sessions, keep reading!

We are looking for volunteers who would like to lead a language café in their first or native language. Your task as a tutor is to support and guide the conversation in your language and to encourage the participants in their language learning. We will provide you with training, guidelines, topics and strategies for leading the sessions. In many cases, we will be able to have two tutors per language so that you can work together with another tutor and/or alternate leading sessions.

Interested students or staff who want to share their knowledge and help others to improve their language skills just need to fill out this form and become a tutor for the Arqus Café! The tutors selected can offer the 1-hour sessions at a time that best fits their schedule. All languages are welcome and there will be a preparatory workshop for all tutors. They will also receive a certificate of participation that will detail their work as a tutor.

Contact us at arqus_cafe@arqus-alliance.eu if you have any further questions.
