Online lecture “UNGSPRÅK: Exploring students’ multilingualism in lower secondary school”

13 April2021

On 13th April, from 1 pm to 2 pm CEST, Arqus organizes the online lecture “UNGSPRÅK: Exploring students’ multilingualism in lower secondary school” by André Storto and Irina Tiurikova (PhD candidates) and Professor Åsta Haukås, from the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Bergen.

Identifying as multilingual can be empowering in several respects, but what do teenagers in Norway think being multilingual means and to what extent do they self-identify as such? The mixed-method research project UNGSPRÅK seeks to address these questions by investigating secondary school students’ multilingualism from a variety of perspectives. In this lecture, we present central findings from our study and invite you to explore some of them together with us.

Åsta Haukås is Professor in German and foreign language didactics. She is also the head of the research group Multilingualism on My Mind (MoMM). In March 2021, MoMM organized an online international conference on multilingualism with participants from all across the globe: Exploring Multilingualism in Education. MoMM21.

This is the fourth of a series of guest lectures (“Seven months, seven universities”) to be offered in the framework of the Action Line 4 of Arqus, Multilingual and Multicultural University (sub-line 4.8). These lectures focus on specific topics related to language and culture, and target mainly graduate and post-graduate students as well as early-stage researchers interested in those topics.

The webinar will take place on 13th April at 1 pm CEST. It will be broadcast live on the Arqus YouTube channel.
