Teachers, lecturers and PhD students interested in the role of artificial intelligence in science education are invited to join this international workshop focused on AI, Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) and multimodal scientific communication.

This free workshop will explore how AI tools can be integrated into scientific learning and communication in meaningful, responsible and creative ways. Participants will take part in practical, hands-on activities designed to demonstrate how AI can support Inquiry-Based Learning and help generate rich multimodal outputs.

In-person workshop in Braga

  • Date: 15 April 2026
  • Time: 9:00–12:00 (UTC+1)
  • Venue: University of Minho
  • Capacity: Maximum 30 participants
  • Participants are asked to bring their own laptop

Online workshop

  • Date: 16 April 2026
  • Time: 9:00–12:00 (UTC+1)
  • Platform: Google Meet / Zoom

What participants will learn

The workshop introduces a “Dual Toolkit” approach that supports both educators and students, moving beyond the hype surrounding AI to focus on its meaningful use in academic settings.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to use the new Dual Toolkit for everyday teaching and research
  • Explore the ethical dimensions of AI in scientific contexts and discover how to encourage responsible use
  • Discover innovative ways to communicate scientific findings through multimodal AI-generated outputs
  • Hear directly from students who tested the Dual Toolkit during its development and learn from their experiences

About the project

The workshop is supported by the Arqus Teaching Innovation Fund and is organized within the framework of the project “Fostering Scientific and AI Literacy through Inquiry-Based Learning in Animal Developmental Biology”.
