Physical activity and chronic pathologies micro-credential

This micro-credential provides an interdisciplinary approach to the relationship between physical activity and chronic pathologies, exploring how exercise and physical activity can play a role in understanding, preventing and managing a range of chronic conditions.

Delivered by professors from two Arqus universities (Lyon 1 as coordinating institution and Granada as partner), the programme brings together different areas of expertise through a series of specialised modules covering cancer, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), metabolic diseases, red blood cell diseases, microbiota, and cardiovascular disease associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This multidisciplinary structure allows participants to gain a broader understanding of the complex interactions between physical activity, physiological processes and chronic disease.

The micro-credential is designed for learners seeking to deepen their knowledge in this field through specialised academic training delivered by experts from both partner institutions. Registrations are open until 1st November 2026.

Learning outcomes

  1. Knowledge and understanding: Gaining a trough and up-to-date knowledge of the physical activity research in the clinical thematics studied. Have knowledge and understanding of the research methods and biological mechanisms currently used in the thematics studied when PA is used.
  2. Applying knowledge and understanding: Gaining the skills to integrate research results in order to develop advanced ideas and practical applications.
  3. Making judgements: Being able to critically evaluate the methodologies and theories currently used in this thematic.
  4. Communication skills: Being able to present and discuss the results of academic research both orally and in writing.
  5. Learning skills: Being able to interpret the outcomes of analytical procedures and to produce reports on this research in accordance with current academic norms.

Admission requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Relevant academic background: Previous coursework in Physiology, Exercise Physiology and Pathophysiology is required.
  • Minimum academic qualification: Applicants must have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree programme or equivalent.
  • English language proficiency: A minimum intermediate level of English (B2 or equivalent) is required, as the course will be delivered in English.

  • 01/11/2026 (9h45 – 13h): Lecture by Vicent Pialoux – Introduction on physical activity, exercise, sedentary behavior, health and chronic diseases (1.5 h) + Physical activity and atherosclerosis (1.5 h)*

  • 09/12/2026 (9h45 – 13h): Lecture by Ursula Debarbot on exercise and brain plasticity in chronic neurological disorders

 

  • 10/12/2026 (10h30 – 12h): Tutorial by Amandine Thomas et Vincent Pialoux to solve at-distance students’ questions
