Format: Online
Arqus is pleased to announce the fifth (and final) event in its English-Medium Instruction (EMI) Seminar Series for 2025–26 run by Maynooth University. The topic of this year’s series is effective assessment in English-taught programmes and classes. The fifth webinar is titled “Assessment in EMI: Aligning content and language through disciplinary literacies.”
This webinar, delivered by Dr Mario Molina Naar, lecturer at Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, will take place online on Thursday, 11 June 2026, from 2pm to 3pm (CEST). This webinar will address common concerns about the potential impact of EMI on content learning and academic achievement and argue that the epistemological foundations of academic disciplines are central to the development of cognitive skills and disciplinary knowledge.
Drawing on established frameworks in education, such as Bloom’s Taxonomy, cognitive discourse functions, and the notion of disciplinary literacies, this webinar proposes practical approaches to the assessment of both content and academic language in EMI higher education contexts. Participants will engage with key concepts in assessment literacy, including constructive alignment and assessment of, for, and as learning, to illustrate how assessment practices can be more effectively designed and implemented in EMI settings.
