Type: Arqus Talent and Innovation Fund
Format: In-person
Arqus and the University of Lyon 1 organise a screening of the film “When you can’t go back” on Wednesday 20 May at 17:30 CEST. The event, part of the Arqus Student Co-designed Projects Initiative, will take place in the Salle Fontannes on the Doua campus. It will be followed by a panel discussion with the director, Leonardo Cinieri Lombroso, and it will be conducted entirely in English.
This documentary tells the story of Obaida, a young Syrian student who arrives in Europe on a scholarship after being forced to leave his country due to the war. Alone in a new environment, he must rebuild his life while facing uncertainty, questions of identity, and a sense of belonging. Through his journey, the film offers an intimate yet powerful perspective on exile, resilience, and the experience of starting over elsewhere.
This event aims to create a space for reflection and dialogue around the realities faced today by migrants, refugees, and international students in Europe. The screening will be followed by a discussion during which participants will be invited to share their thoughts and exchange views on the themes addressed in the film.
The event is open to the general public and admission is free of charge, but registration is required. Read more about this initiative, financed by the Arqus Innovation Fund, by clicking here.
