Arqus takes part in the international seminar “Universities in Alliance” organised by CRUE and UIMP

Dorothy Kelly, Arqus Coordinator, took part on 4th September in the international seminar “Universities in Alliance”, organised by the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) in collaboration with the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP).

Held in Santander (Spain), the seminar brought together representatives from universities and public institutions to reflect on the present and future of university alliances and their capacity to generate impact at European, global and territorial levels.

The programme addressed some of the main challenges and opportunities arising from cooperation between higher education institutions, with a particular focus on alliance governance, sustainability, funding models and the role of universities within innovation and territorial development ecosystems.

Against this backdrop, Dorothy Kelly contributed the perspective of Arqus as a European University Alliance, sharing the experience of its partner universities in developing new forms of collaboration, academic cooperation and joint impact.

The seminar aimed to identify the conditions that enable university alliances to be sustainable, relevant and capable of contributing to economic development, social cohesion and the strengthening of the higher education system. As an outcome of the meeting, CRUE plans to develop a roadmap with recommendations for universities and for the organisation itself.

For Arqus, spaces for dialogue and reflection such as this seminar are an opportunity to strengthen the role of European University Alliances as strategic instruments for deeper and more sustainable cooperation between higher education institutions and for jointly addressing the major challenges facing European society.
