03 Jul 2026Arqus continues to foster innovation in teaching and research through Qual-AI: Enhancing the Use of AI in Qualitative Research, a collaborative initiative bringing together researchers from the University of Minho and the University of Padua. The programme concluded on 18 June with a face-to-face workshop in Minho.
This project has been coordinated by Carina Pimentel, with contributions from Emília Araújo, Hélder Lopes and Jorge Cunha (University of Minho), alongside Juliana E. Raffaghelli and Francesca Crudele (University of Padua), and supported by Arqus.
Following a successful workshop held online in 3 June led by Juliana E. Raffaghelli, the initiative concluded with a face-to-face workshop at the Azurém Campus of the University of Minho on 18 June, where participants shared experiences and reflected on the practical application of AI in qualitative research.
Designed for students from disciplines including Sociology, Geography, Engineering, Education and related fields, the workshops explored how artificial intelligence can support qualitative research while maintaining high ethical and scientific standards. Participants were introduced to tools for project planning, data collection and information analysis, with particular emphasis on responsible AI use, critical thinking and methodological rigour.
A defining feature of the initiative was its interdisciplinary and international approach, bringing together students from diverse academic backgrounds to exchange perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into qualitative research. By promoting collaboration across institutions and disciplines, Qual-AI exemplifies the Arqus Alliance’s commitment to strengthening innovative, responsible and inclusive higher education across Europe.
