“Jardines portátiles”, an artistic perspective on the garden between Granada and Guimarães

The University of Granada is hosting, since Monday 14 September, the exhibition “Jardins portáteis, Jardines portátiles”, a showcase bringing together different artistic approaches to the idea of the garden. The exhibition will be open to visitors until 8 October.

The expo offers a different and intimate perspective on the garden, moving beyond its traditional conception as a physical space. Through foldable formats, artist’s books, and a variety of materials and techniques, the participants explore the garden as a space that can be imagined, transported, and reinterpreted from different perspectives.

It features a total of 24 artist’s books created by students from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Granada and the School of Architecture, Art and Design at the University of Minho. The works were developed as part of the project “Narrating the Garden through the Artist’s Book. A Connection between University Campuses through Collaborative and Inclusive Artistic Practices”, supported by the Arqus Teaching Innovation Fund.

The project is coordinated by Gloria Lapeña, Professor at the University of Granada, and also involves Minho professors Carla Cruz, Najla Leroy and Joana Paradinha. Granada students León Perales, Irene Fuentes and Esperanza Gallardo are also taking part in the initiative.

This activity aims to foster artistic collaboration between students from both universities and create a space for exchange between Granada and Guimarães. In this context, the exhibition is itinerant and was previously presented in May 2026 in Guimarães, at the University of Minho.

The participating artists include Leonor Brites, Mariana Camposinhos, Ana Carvalho, Camila Valeria Clímaco, Ana Corrales, Miriam Folch, María de Gomar, Francisco Lauña, Lara Meireles, Mariana Mendonça, Vicente Carlos Molero, Joana Nunes, Carmen Núñez, Gregorio Peinado, Isis Ribeiro, Gloria Román, Diana Rusnak, Beatriz Sá, Inês Silva, Liz Silva, Sérgio Teixeira, Pablo del Toro, Ilduara Valiña and Sinja Wichrowski. 

The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover how the artist’s book can become a creative space for representing, narrating and transforming the idea of the garden!
