Today, 9 May, Arqus joins the celebration of Europe Day with several activities.

Video on the European and Arqus values

Watch the video we have prepared on the similarities between Europe and the Arqus Alliance, as explained by some Arqus colleagues:

Arqus Café Anniversary event

On the occasion of Europe Day and the Arqus Café 10th edition, this morning, a special event took place. It opened with a welcome by the Arqus Coordinator, Dorothy Kelly, and the Arqus Café facilitator, Meike Münster. They recognised the success of the Arqus Café, one of the longest-standing Arqus activities and very popular among students and staff.

This initiative promotes our shared European values –plurilingualism, linguistic and cultural diversity, dialogue, respect and peace– and the Alliance’s commitment to reinforcing them. The Arqus Café represents what Europe stands for: meeting diverse people, learning from one another and improving together. Dorothy Kelly and Meike Münster congratulated the dedication of the Arqus Café team and the language tutors, and celebrated the ongoing success of this initiative, hoping to include more in-person exchanges as well as online sessions.

Institutional event at the University of Granada

The University of Granada organised today an event to celebrate Europe Day under the theme “ Unity in diversity and the defence of European values”. The event counted on the participation of Pedro Mercado, Rector of the University of Granada, as well as Granada’s mayor and the coordinator of the Andalusian Council of the European Movement in Granada. Guadalupe Soriano, Arqus institutional coordinator at the University of Granada, and Marina Fernández-Peña Mollá, Arqus communications coordinator, also attended the ceremony.

Europe Day is a day to honour peace, diversity and unity in Europe. The Arqus Alliance celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration highlighting the importance of cooperation and human rights, and our shared commitment to work towards a stronger, more inclusive, democratic and intercultural Europe.

Other activities

In addition, the Arqus local team in Granada is visiting high schools this week to present the opportunities Europe and the Arqus Alliance offer, with particular emphasis on mobility, training and language opportunities.

Leipzig University, to mark Europe Day, is exhibiting multiple posters on some of Arqus Alliance’s initiatives, such as Arqus Café, Talent Fund, Innovation Fund, Green Mobility Days, the Arqus Knowledge Pills podcast, Student Agora, Living Labs, 9 Months 9 Universities webinars, etc.

Happy Europe Day!
