07 Mar 2025On Friday 3 March, as part of the Social Justice Week programme, Maynooth University invited their students and staff to attend the film screening and roundtable of the documentary film “When you can’t go back”, a story about the life of a Syrian refugee student in Europe.
The event included the film screening, a presentation by Eliza Gamba from the University of Padua, and a roundtable discussion led by the film’s director Leonardo Cinieri Lombroso. As roundtable speakers, Chandana Mathur (Anthropology), Abdul Aziz Mohibbi (Geography) and Niamh Keady-Tabbal (Law) from Maynooth University participated.
Maynooth Social Justice Week at Maynooth University is a collaborative project between students, staff, and internal and external organisations to tackle social justice issues locally and globally, promoting social justice and challenging injustice. MU Social Justice Week 2025 encouraged students, staff, and the wider community to come together in conversation, action, and reflection on how to collectively build a more just and more equal future.
This event is part of the bottom-up initiative “Arqus: an Alliance supporting refugees’ right to a qualified and unique study experience” aims to organise a day of reflection on refugee students at each partner university. Learn more about this Arqus initiative here.
