Arqus participated in the European Universities Coordinators working retreat held on 14 April in Brussels, a key forum focused on shaping the future of European university alliances within the Erasmus+ framework.

The one-day meeting, organised as an in-person working session, aimed to advance the design of the future Erasmus+ action supporting European University Alliances in the next programming period (2028–2034).

Representing Arqus at the meeting were Dorothy Kelly, Coordinator of the Alliance, and Guadalupe Soriano Barabino, Director of Arqus at the University of Granada and prospective Arqus coordinator from next 1 October. Their participation highlights Arqus’ strong commitment to actively contributing to policy discussions and the development of the European Higher Education Area.

The agenda brought together coordinators and institutional representatives from across Europe to address strategic priorities, including the future structure of Erasmus+ support, mobility, international cooperation, the role of alliances in strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, and performance monitoring.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in breakout sessions and plenary discussions tackling key issues such as the role of alliances in strategic sectors, their contribution to the European Research Area, and the optimisation of reporting and evaluation systems. The programme also included networking opportunities aimed at strengthening collaboration among alliances.

Arqus’ presence at this high-level meeting reinforces its role as a proactive and influential alliance, contributing to the ongoing transformation of higher education in Europe and to the design of future European policies.
