One week of fieldwork in the Granada Geopark
|
05 Oct 2026From 14 to 20 September, the Granada Geopark hosted the Arqus BIP Summer School in Applied Earth Sciences, bringing together students and academic staff from three Arqus Alliance partner institutions: the University of Granada, the University of Leipzig, and the University of Padua.
Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) funded by Erasmus+ combine virtual learning with short physical mobility. Putting this model into action, Andalusia’s striking landscape served as a living laboratory for master’s students specializing in environmental, agricultural, and earth sciences. Working alongside international peers, participants conducted hands-on fieldwork covering soil erosion, geomorphology, geophysics, and aerial drone surveys.

The initiative showed how transnational education equips the next generation of scientists to address shared environmental challenges through hands-on learning and international teamwork.

Professor Tarolli from the University of Padua said: “It was an intense week of lectures, field measurements, excursions and teamwork in one of Andalusia’s most impressive landscapes – and a great opportunity for students and professors from three European universities to work and learn together.”
