The rectorates of Leipzig University and the University of Graz came together last week for a joint session hosted in Graz, continuing a partnership that has now spanned nearly four decades. The meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of the longstanding bilateral relationship and to discuss concrete steps toward further deepening cooperation within the framework of the Arqus European University Alliance.

At the heart of the discussions was the question of how both universities can strengthen their joint contributions to Arqus and expand shared initiatives in research, teaching and student mobility. The session underscored the commitment of both institutions to advancing European higher education through close and sustained collaboration.

Beyond the formal agenda, the visit to Graz also offered the Leipzig delegation a window into the history and future of their partner university. A guided tour of the historic mummy book, one of the remarkable artefacts held at the University of Graz, provided a vivid reminder of the institution’s rich academic heritage. The delegation also visited the construction site of the new Graz Center of Physics, a flagship project that points toward the university’s ambitious research future.
