The University of Wrocław invites Arqus PhD students and early-stage researchers to participate in the Summer School “Introduction to statistics with R” that will be held from 25th June to 1st July 2023. The Summer School is organised by the Institute of Political Science and the Centre for Quantitative Research of this University and is funded by the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme.

The training will include the following contents and activities:

  • Online introductory session concerning the basics of statistics and R software (4 hours).
  • Lectures on quantitative methods in social sciences (4 hours).
  • Workshops concerning application of statistics in political science with practical use of R software (linear regression and logistic regression) (28 hours).
  • Discussions on actual studies and analyses (2 hours).

The Summer School will also cover a guided tour of Wrocław and enable networking, experience sharing and discussing potential future scientific partnerships.

The course will follow a beginner-level programme for participants who hold basic knowledge of statistics (such as central tendency measures, measures of variance, normal distribution, p-value, division between parametric and non-parametric tests, distinction between population and sample, definition what dependant and independent variables are) and want to learn how to apply it in their research.

The Summer School may be fully funded for the Arqus candidates, PhD students or early-stage researchers, that are selected to participate. Please note that each participant has to obtain an Erasmus mobility grant from his/her home University to cover the costs of transport, accommodation and catering in Wrocław. The costs of lectures and workshops shall be borne by the University of Wrocław within the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme.

Applications, including the candidate’s name, status, year of study, specialisation, and a short description of the experience with quantitative methods, should be sent to malgorzata.madej@uwr.edu.pl no later than 15th April 2023.
