The ENLIGHT and Arqus alliances organise the 10th Open Science ambassador webinar, titled Data makers’ and users’ views on useful paradata. The webinar will take place on 29 September, from 10:00 to 11:00 CEST, on Zoom.

In this session, participants will explore the role of paradata (information on how research data is created, curated, manipulated, and used) in making data truly (re)usable.

The webinar will feature Prof. Dr. Isto Huvila (Uppsala University), who will present the results of a recent study surveying archaeologists on which aspects of paradata they consider most relevant in their work.

The findings show that data producers’ and users’ perspectives converge to a significant degree, while also stressing the importance of ensuring that paradata remains meaningful for users rather than focusing mainly on technical or administrative details.

The session will highlight how these insights underline the need to develop and test effective ways of capturing and documenting paradata and to find ways to help data makers implement these proven practices.
