The Arqus Alliance, along with the University of Granada Centre for Development Cooperation Initiatives (CICODE), is organising the film forum University and Refuge: Higher education in the face of the challenge of forced displacement, with the screening of the documentary Refugee Girls.

This activity will take place on Monday, 20 October at 9:30 CEST in the Jordi Alberich conference room at the Faculty of Communication and Documentation on the Cartuja Campus of the University of Granada.

The documentary follows the lives of three young refugee girls in Europe, telling the story of Robina, an Afghan student at La Sapienza University in Rome, and how she and other refugees adapt to university life and their new reality in Italy. It also portrays the stories of Sofiia and Bozhena, two Ukrainian students at the University of Barcelona who continue their education away from Ukraine, showing how, despite the difficult challenges posed by forced migration, these young women face their future with hope.

The event will count with a film screening and a round table discussion with the participation of:

  • Leonardo Cinieri Lombroso: Film director of  “Refugee Girls” and “When you can’t go back”

  • Elisa Gamba: Project manager.

  • Mario de la Torre: Performing Arts Coordinator and associate professor at the University of Granada.

  • Susana Puertas Valdeiglesias: Vice-Dean of Internationalisation and Equality at the Faculty of Communication and Documentation at the University of Granada.

This activity is open and free of charge to all the members of the Arqus community. No prior registration is required, admission will be granted until full capacity is reached

This event is part of the ad-hoc bottom-up initiative “Arqus: an Alliance supporting Refugees’ right to a Qualified and Unique Study experience”, which aims to organise a day of reflection on refugee students at each Arqus partner university and is funded by the Arqus Innovation Fund.
