The University of Lyon 1 is pleased to announce the launch of the MuSkLE Excellence Scholarships, offering outstanding Master’s and PhD students the opportunity to join a cutting-edge, research-driven graduate programme in France.

The MuSkLE Graduate Programme (Musculo-Skeletal System, Locomotion, Exercise) offers cutting-edge, interdisciplinary training dedicated to understanding the musculoskeletal system from the molecular to the integrative level. The programme explores the impact of physical exercise—particularly locomotor activity—on the musculoskeletal system in both physiological contexts (e.g., athletes, nutrition) and pathophysiological conditions (e.g., osteoporosis, neuromuscular diseases, cancer, inflammatory rheumatism, aging).


🎓 Excellence Scholarships – Master’s Level (2025–2026)

The MuSkLE Excellence Scholarships are open to international students applying to:

  • Master 1 (first year) of the MuSkLE Graduate Programme
  • Master 2 (second year) tracks within the MuSkLE Graduate Programme

These scholarships provide outstanding students with the opportunity to join a fully English-taught, research-intensive programme embedded in internationally recognized laboratories.

Application periods:

  • Period 1: 17 December 2025 – 28 February 2026
  • Period 2: 11 May – 14 June 2026

This is a unique opportunity for talented students within the Arqus Alliance and globally to engage in advanced training in life sciences, biomechanics, physiology, and health research in France.

🎓 Excellence Scholarships – PhD Level (2026–2029)

The program also offers three Excellence PhD Scholarships for highly qualified candidates wishing to pursue an interdisciplinary doctoral project dedicated to the musculoskeletal system.

PhD timeline:

  • Applications open: 23 January 2026
  • Application deadline: 30 March 2026

Selected doctoral candidates will join dynamic research teams and contribute to innovative projects at the intersection of exercise science, health, and translational research.
