09 Mar 2026The University of Granada will host the DOTTSS Ibn Tibbon PhD Summer School from 15 to 26 June 2026, bringing together doctoral researchers and educators in Translation Studies from across the world.
The Doctoral and Teacher-Training Translation Studies Summer School (DOTTSS) is an international initiative jointly organised by five universities: the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), the University of Turku (Finland), Tampere University (Finland), the University of Granada (Spain) and Boğaziçi University (Türkiye). Since its launch in 2012, the programme has welcomed doctoral students and teachers of translation and interpreting from a wide range of countries, creating a dynamic forum for advanced training and academic exchange in the field of Translation Studies.
The Granada edition of the summer school carries the name “Ibn Tibbon”, in honour of the medieval translator, philosopher and physician Judah ben Saul Ibn Tibbon, who was born in Granada and played a key role in translating philosophical and ethical works from Arabic into Hebrew.
The theme of the 2026 edition is “The political stakes of translation, interpreting and interdisciplinarity in times of global crisis”. Through a series of lectures, seminars and discussions, the programme will explore the role of translation and interpreting in contexts marked by geopolitical tensions, social movements and technological transformation.
Participants will examine how translation mediates knowledge across cultures, disciplines and communities, and how it can both reinforce and challenge existing power structures. The programme will encourage critical reflection on the ethical, political and social dimensions of translation in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

The guest professor for the 2026 edition is Julie Boéri, Honorary Research Fellow in Intercultural Communication, Translation and Interpreting at the University of Manchester and President of the International Association of Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS).
Her work focuses on the translational dynamics of socio-political and technological change and the ethics of mediation in activist, professional and scholarly contexts.
The summer school programme combines lectures, methodological discussions and collaborative activities designed to support early-stage researchers and teachers of translation. Participants will engage with current theoretical and methodological approaches in Translation Studies and have the opportunity to present and discuss their research projects in an international academic environment.
By bringing together scholars, doctoral candidates and educators, the DOTTSS Summer School aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and strengthen international collaboration in translation and interpreting research.
More information about the programme, application process and practical details is available on the official event website.
