08 May 2026On 13 and 14 May 2026, the Arqus International Forum on Romance Studies (AIFRS) will host the Symposium on Minority and Minoritized Romance Languages in Granada, an academic event taking place within the framework of the Arqus Bottom-Up Initiative Beyond majority languages: Research dissemination and teaching promotion of minority and minoritized languages in Europe.
The initiative aims to promote research, teaching and public engagement with Europe’s linguistic diversity, with a particular focus on Romance languages that have historically been marginalised or are currently undergoing processes of minoritisation. The symposium is primarily addressed to students, but it is open to the entire university community and all those interested in language diversity, multilingualism and cultural heritage.
This event is part of the ongoing work developed by the Arqus International Forum on Romance Studies (AIFRS), which fosters collaboration in Romance Studies across the Alliance and promotes innovative approaches to research dissemination and teaching practices related to linguistic diversity in Europe.
The symposium reflects the Arqus commitment to fostering multilingualism, intercultural dialogue and the promotion of linguistic diversity as a key element of European cultural and academic heritage. By bringing together researchers, teachers and students, the event seeks to strengthen the visibility of minority and minoritized Romance languages and encourage new pedagogical and research perspectives in this field.
Further information on the Bottom Up Initiative can be found here.
Participants are warmly invited to join this academic exchange and contribute to the ongoing reflection on the role of linguistic diversity in contemporary Europe!
