The Rector of the University of Minho attended the 30th Annual Conference of the European University Association (EUA) in Istanbul and represented Arqus in the Plenary Session on Alliances’ leadership.

Pedro Arezes was the only Portuguese speaker at the event held in Turkey, addressing a plenary session on European University Alliances, on leadership and the future of international cooperation. The session also featured the Rector of the University of Iceland, Silja Ómarsdóttir, and was moderated by the EUA Secretary-General, Amanda Crowfoot.

The EUA’s main annual event brought together leaders from higher education institutions across the continent, serving as a key moment for strategic reflection and for identifying best practices and opportunities for international collaboration. The agenda focused on topics such as university autonomy, science funding, inclusion, sustainability, digital transformation and the role of academia in a changing geopolitical context, amongst others.

The University of Minho participates regularly in EUA initiatives, closely following the dynamics and guidelines shaping the development of this sector in Europe. Pedro Arezes’ participation in the meeting also served to reinforce the role of Arqus in international networks and to contribute actively to the definition of policies and priorities within the European Higher Education and Research area.
