The University of Granada seeks candidates for its International Doctorate Summer School on Geometrical aspects of architecture and structural mechanics (GASM) taking place on 20-23 May 2025. The application deadline is 30 April.

The aim of the International Doctorate School “Geometrical Aspects of Architecture and Structural Mechanics” is to bring together PhD students and young researchers from a wide variety of backgrounds (industrial and academic) who are concerned with the mathematics of shape generation in the framework of architecture and structural design.

Four places are reserved for students from Arqus Alliance universities.

In order to register please fill out the registration form. The application will be closed on 30 April 2025.

The courses and lectures will be given by leading experts in the field from leading institutions, and will aim to provide attendees with valuable knowledge, not only on important techniques underpinning advances in the field, but also on the latest developments in research where the important application of mathematics in architecture and structural design is embodied.

These two fields have indeed undergone major developments thanks to discrete differential geometry and integrable systems. At the heart of the subject is the discretisation on shapes, their resultings constructional and mechanical properties as well as the methods for deforming these shapes conserving these properties. Topics of particular interest are: the discretisation of surfaces by quad planes with remarkable features, their kinematic or mechanical rigidity, shape duality in all its forms, to name a few.

The right environment will be created for PhD students and young researchers to have the opportunity to interact with these leading and experienced experts, and time will be set aside for them to make a short presentation of their research results or topics.
