The Ministry of Education and Science in Poland and the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) have awarded the University of Wrocław funding for activities to be carried out between Ukrainian universities and Arqus universities.

The University of Wrocław (Uwr) organises this school with the aim of engaging young scholars in a critical reflection on Ukraine’s current political and economic transformation. The event will take place from 22 to 26 May 2023 in Wrocław.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures and workshops and share their points of view on the Ukrainian democratic path to the European Union and the current war situation. PhD candidates from Ukrainian universities will present political, social and economic changes caused by the war and PhD candidates from Arqus will present the political, social and economic consequences of the war in Ukraine on their respective countries.

The programme is designed for 22 PhD students (14 from Arqus Alliance Universities and 8 from Ukrainian Universities). Eligible applicants can be from disciplines of political science, sociology, history, law, philosophy, economics, and communication.

Potential participants are required to submit a 250-word abstract addressing the political or economic aspects of the war, the public reaction or opinion of the participant′s home country, as well as the impact on the economic sector, the political situation, and the perceptions of the European Union.

Abstracts can be sent to summerschool@uwr.edu.pl. The deadline for submitting the abstracts has been extended until 7 April 2023. Only 2 candidates from each partner institution might be accepted.

The program covers all expenditures associated with travelling to and staying in the conference location, including meals and accommodation.

This Summer School is part of an initiative of the Polish Ministry of Education and Science and the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) to subsidise activities with partner universities from Ukraine that are complementary and synergistic to those planned within the framework of Arqus.
