21 Oct 2024On 26 September, the University of Lyon 1 welcomed over 20 young researchers from many universities in Lyon (France) and the Arqus Universities of Graz (Austria) and Wrocław (Poland) for a very practical training session on European funding for postdoctoral research in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH).
The training session was organised, as part of the Arqus Mentoring Programme for Early-Stage Researchers (PhD students and postdocs), in collaboration with the ABILITY project (which brings together the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the Université Lumière Lyon 2, the Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and the ENS de Lyon).
The main objective was to inform doctoral and post-doctoral students about the funding opportunities offered by European programmes for post-doctoral research in SSH.
The session, entitled ‘How can I get my postdoctoral research funded by Europe?’, was led by experts from the Universities of Lyon 1 and Lyon 2. They presented the various support services for European projects available in the Lyon/Saint Etienne academic area, as well as the Horizon Europe programme, in particular the European Research Council (ERC) calls for proposals and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions.
In addition, participants worked in groups to identify sources of funding and the societal impact of their research and to improve their CV writing skills in line with the expectations of European juries. These activities encouraged in-depth reflection on the specific requirements of European programmes.
The workshop demonstrated not only the growing interest of young researchers in European funding, but also the importance for academic institutions to prepare them for success in an international research landscape.
