22 Oct 2024On 26 and 27 September an Arqus workshop to develop a Joint EU Innovative Training Networks (ITN) Proposal on Multimethod and Multiscale Geohazard Characterization took place in a hybrid format at Leipzig University.
Organised by Djamil Al-Halbouni and Jorge Galve, over 20 participants from Arqus universities (Granada, Leipzig, Padua, Graz) and other institutions from France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Malta and the Czech Republic followed the call.
The researchers identified key needs and research overlaps, defined the coordinator and steering committee, and collected initial ideas for PhD topics within the framework of a Doctoral Network. Individual talks, discussion rounds, general information sessions and a visit to the geological-palaeontological collection of Leipzig University took place in a friendly and productive atmosphere at the Institute for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing.
The first PhD project ideas have already been identified and the next workshop is planned for spring in Padua to pave the way for an Arqus-initiated EU ITN proposal that will enable to train a new generation of Earth Scientists to tackle the challenges that climate change poses to humanity.
